Do math placement scores expire over time?

Yes. Math placement scores do expire.

  • ACT, SAT, PSAT, and ALEKS scores are valid for two years from the date you took the test.

  • Transitional math course eligibility expires 18 months after you complete the course.

If you don’t start your first math course within two years of taking the ALEKS assessment, you’ll need to retake the ALEKS test before enrolling in math.

Once you’ve started a math course at ECC, you can only retake the placement test if you earn an A grade in that course. If you return to ECC after several years, you can either continue your math sequence or appeal to retake the placement test through the Academic Advising office.
