What are the requirements for prospective students interested in ECC's truck driving program?63 views

At ECC, on-the-road training is the most critical component of the curriculum. This is where the rubber meets the road, and everything learned in the classroom is applied in real-time. There are two primary areas of instruction where the student receives hands-on training at the wheel, requiring 50 hours, and skills lot training, requiring 170 hours.

Prospective students must meet several requirements to participate in ECC's truck driving program:

  1. Obtain an ECC student ID number. Please apply to ECC and then request to be a part of the program.
  2. Use the ECC Truck Driving Program Instructor Consent Request form to sign up for consent to take classes.
  3. Be at least 18 years old.
  4. You must have a valid Illinois driver's license.
  5. Once registered for classes, you must pass The Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test and physical exam, a medical examination required for commercial vehicle drivers in the United States. The DOT regulations govern commercial motor vehicle drivers' use of drugs and alcohol. As such, Elgin Community College is required to conduct mandatory drug and alcohol testing of students in the truck driving program at specific times and under specific conditions.
  6. Enrolling in BRG 101, BRG 201, and BRG 202 is mandatory to complete the program. Refer to the table below for information on class grouping.
